How Is the Day of the Week Calculated?

The calculator determines the weekday by converting the selected calendar date into an exact date value and identifying its position within the seven-day weekly cycle.

The result shows whether the selected date falls on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

The Day of the Year result represents the selected date’s position within the year. January 1 is day 1, while December 31 is day 365 in a normal year or day 366 in a leap year.

The Week of the Year result follows the ISO week-date system. In this system, weeks begin on Monday and the first week is the week containing the year’s first Thursday.

Leap years are handled automatically. A year is normally a leap year when it is divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400.
